If you've never been to Vernal before, you might be surprised by how much there is to do here. Known as Utah's Dinosaur Land, Vernal is surrounded by unique attractions, outdoor recreation, and beautiful scenery. Whether you're visiting for a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or a work trip, there are plenty of ways to fill your time.

Here are five of the best things to do in Vernal during your stay.

1. Explore Dinosaur National Monument

This is one of my favorite things to in Vernal. No trip to Vernal is complete without visiting Dinosaur National Monument.

The monument is home to one of the most famous fossil sites in the country, where visitors can see hundreds of real dinosaur fossils still embedded in the rock. Beyond the fossils, you'll find scenic drives, hiking trails, petroglyphs, and incredible canyon views.

Many visitors end up spending an entire day exploring everything the monument has to offer.

2. Spend a Day at Red Fleet State Park

Just a short drive from town, Red Fleet State Park is one of the area's most popular outdoor destinations.

The reservoir is perfect for boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming during the summer months. Visitors can also hike to a dinosaur trackway where fossilized footprints remain preserved in the rock.

The combination of red cliffs and blue water makes it one of the most photographed locations near Vernal.

3. Visit the Utah Field House Museum

If you want to learn more about the area's prehistoric history, the Utah Field House Museum is a great place to start.

The museum features dinosaur exhibits, fossils, interactive displays, and life-size dinosaur models outside. It's an excellent stop for families and anyone interested in learning more about what makes Vernal unique.

4. Explore Local Hiking Trails

The Vernal area offers a variety of hiking opportunities for all skill levels.

Whether you're looking for a short walk to a scenic overlook or a longer trail through Utah's rugged landscape, you'll find plenty of options nearby. Many trails feature views of canyons, rock formations, wildlife, and ancient rock art.

Spring and fall are especially popular times to get outside and explore.

5. Discover Why Vernal Is Called Dinosaur Land

One of the best things about visiting Vernal is that dinosaurs aren't limited to a single attraction.

You'll find dinosaur-themed parks, museums, exhibits, statues, and educational experiences throughout the area. It's a fun destination for families and a unique experience you won't find in many other places.
