Red Fleet State Park. Stunning photo of red rock cliffs, the late, and plants.

When people think about Vernal, dinosaurs usually get most of the attention. While Dinosaur National Monument is definitely worth visiting, Red Fleet State Park is another spot that deserves a place on your itinerary.

Located less than 20 minutes from downtown Vernal, Red Fleet is one of the best places in the area to spend a day outdoors.

The first thing you'll notice is the scenery. Massive red sandstone cliffs surround a blue reservoir, creating views that look straight out of a postcard. It's one of those places where you'll probably stop more than once just to take a picture.

During the warmer months, Red Fleet becomes a popular destination for boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. The calm water makes it a great place for families, while the surrounding landscape offers plenty of opportunities to explore.

One of the park's most unique features is its dinosaur trackway. A short hike leads visitors to fossilized dinosaur footprints that have been preserved in the rock for millions of years. It's a fun experience for kids and adults alike, and it adds another layer to Vernal's reputation as Dinosaurland.

Even if you're not interested in water activities, Red Fleet is worth visiting for the views alone. The red rock formations are especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the light reflects off the cliffs and reservoir.

Many visitors are surprised by how close everything is in Vernal. You can spend the morning exploring Dinosaur National Monument, cool off at Red Fleet in the afternoon, and still be back in town for dinner.

If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay while exploring the area, Horizon Hotel offers easy access to Red Fleet State Park and many of Vernal's other top attractions. Guests can enjoy free breakfast, an indoor pool, a hot tub, and comfortable rooms after a day spent outdoors.

Whether you're visiting Vernal for a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or a road trip through Utah, Red Fleet State Park is a destination that's well worth the short drive.
